Author Matt Rogan approached me to help structure and edit a book he'd written with his father on Britain and the Olympic Games, the story of the social, political and cultural background behind London's three Olympic Games. Matt drew heavily on his experience in sports marketing for the book, and his father has been involved in sport for over 50 years. The book was to be published with the help of Lane4, the consulting company Matt worked for, but they needed help with the editorial and publishing process. I read and edited the manuscript, correcting copy and discussing changes to sharpen emphasis, clarify examples and strengthen presentation. I also provided advice on marketing the book. The book went on to take the number one spot in the Amazon Olympic book rankings in early 2011 and has been well-received.
Matt said: "Martin was an empathetic and creative Editor for our book Britain and the Olympic Games. He was able to immerse himself in the subject of the book, and yet at the same time retain a critical distance from our work. I can't think of a single recommendation Martin made for the text that we didn't take up. His contribution to our book has been a critical part of its success, and I can't recommend him highly enough as a partner."
